I offer individual lessons from my home studio in Douglas in singing, speech and drama for all ages, styles and abilities. From the nervous beginner to the experienced performer, I aim to provide a positive environment which encourages and motivates students to develop to the best of their abilities. My students have taken part in many productions on the Island, have passed exams with flying colours and have gone on to audition successfully for music and drama courses in the UK. I also have those students who just enjoy coming along and having a sing once a week.
Singing lessons work upon the establishment of a good technique and then work upon integrating this into performance. All singing - whatever the style, whatever age and whatever the motivation - should be healthy and whilst I encourage students to grow and develop as singers, I am careful that voices are used in a safe manner.
Voice lessons are planned to be both informative and enjoyable and wiil enable those attending to be able to communicate with confidence by coming to an understanding of how the voice works; how important breath is in energising the voice; and how tone, volume and inflection can all be used to provide interest and impact. Voice lessons can be of use to all sorts of people - from the professional looking to give an important presentation, to someone just looking to build confidence when speaking. What i don't do is try to change people's natural accent/speech patterns and I am not a speech therapist and so if you are having any vocal difficulties, you should make an appointment with your GP.
Drama lessons concentrate upon basic techniques - understanding the text, using the voice and body, building a character, essential stagecraft, communicating to an audience, using improvisation and so on and I can assist those people wishing to develop their existing skills or those looking to prepare audition pieces with a specific requirement in mind.
